What is a wishlist?

Wishlists are great tools for keeping track of items you would like to purchase, or would like others to purchase for you.

Selectors often use wishlists to make a list of items in a particular subject area, and then share the list with their acquisition departments to place the order. Some library staff use wishlists to remember items for later purchase.

Create a wishlist

Simply search for an item and then click its Add to Wishlist link instead of adding it to your Shopping Cart. You can start and add to a wishlist without having an Alibris account, but if you wish to order from your wishlist or would like to return to your wishlist on future visits, you will need to create an account.

Add items to your wishlist

Search for a title and then click its Add to Wishlist link instead of adding it to your Shopping Cart. To add comments and to specify details about the title you're requesting, click the Edit Wishlist Details button while in your wishlist and then use the available options to make your desired specifications. After making changes, be sure to click the Update This Wish button.

Purchase an item from your wishlist

Many library staff members use wishlists to assemble lists to save for later purchase. When you're ready to make a purchase from your own wishlist, simply click the Add to Cart button beside the desired item, and then proceed with checkout. Or to add multiple items in your wishlist to your cart, use individual check boxes or the Check All link at the bottom of the wishlist page. Then click the Add Checked Items to Your Cart button. (To use the check boxes, your wishlist view must not show details.)

Please note that if a specific inventory item was not selected when the item was added to the wishlist (e.g., a title was selected generally, but a specific copy of that title was not), you will see a Search button instead of the Add to Cart button next to the title. In those cases, you will need to access the search results and select a specific item in order to add the title to your cart.

Download your wishlist

You can download your wishlist into a tab-delimited text file. To do so, ensure that your wishlist view does not show details. (Click the Hide Details button to change your wishlist view.) Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Download Wishlist As Tab-Delimited File link. The resulting file will include all available bibliographic details on "exact copy" items.

Enable others to find your wishlist

You can allow others (such as members of your acquisitions department) to locate your wishlist by searching for your e-mail address. To do so, select the Searchable option on your wishlist page, and then click the Update button. Someone who is looking for your wishlist will be required to enter your e-mail address to find your list.

If you select the Not Searchable option, your list cannot be found by someone using the Search for a Wishlist feature. However, you can still share your wishlist via the Share Your List with Colleagues link.

Tell others about your wishlist

To inform others (such as members of your acquisitions department) that you've created a wishlist, click the Share Your List with Colleagues link on your wishlist page. Then enter the e-mail addresses of everyone you want to notify, type a personal message (if desired), specify your shipping address (if needed), and click the Send button.

Find a colleague's wishlist

Use the Search for a Wishlist box near the top of your wishlist page to locate someone's wishlist. Enter your colleague's e-mail address and click the Go button. Or, if you received an e-mail notice about a wishlist, make sure to follow the link in the e-mail to view the wishlist.

If you can't find a particular wishlist, its creator may not have made it searchable. Ask your colleague to visit his/her own wishlist, to click its Searchable option, and to then click the Update button. Afterward, you should be able to locate the wishlist.

Wishlist shipping options

A wishlist order is sent to the shipping address that the person making the purchase provides during checkout. If you're not sure that your acquisitions department or others know your shipping address, make sure to let them know. An easy way to do this is to use the Share Your List with Colleagues link on your wishlist page.

Move items from shopping cart to wishlist

When you have an item in your Shopping Cart that you would like to move to your wishlist for later reference, click the Move to Wishlist link beside that item in your cart. Alternatively, you may click the Check All box at the bottom of the cart to select all items in the cart, and then click the Move Checked Items to Wishlist button at the bottom of the Shopping Cart.

Delete items in your wishlist

You may delete wishes from your wishlist individually by clicking the Delete button beside the appropriate items. Or use the check boxes to select multiple items, and then click the Delete Checked Items button at the bottom of the wishlist. (To use the check boxes, your wishlist view must not show details.) Wishes in your wishlist will not be deleted automatically, even after they have been ordered. However, a message will appear beside particular items in your list, informing you when they have been purchased. You may then choose to delete them.
