Wire - February 2010
In this Library Wire:
Library Wire going quarterly
That's right, going forward your Alibris Library Wire will be produced and "published" quarterly. Since faithful readers have come to rely on our monthly updates—going all the way back into the previous decade—rest assured that we will still regularly keep in touch through separate (and quicker) communication, like "Quick Tips" to regular users highlighting a specific service available from Alibris for Libraries; "Coupon e-mails" which offer additional savings; and occasionally, longer, more targeted e-mails to specific folks in Acquisitions and Collection Development. Please let us know what you think of this new communication strategy. Meanwhile, we'll continue to post past and future editions of Library Wire online, for your convenience.
Recent research reveals...
Despite—or maybe because of—changes in both publishing and libraries, the book business is still fertile ground for research and publication among acquisitions and collection development librarians, folks on the lookout for the best ways to serve their profession. Recent reports from Against the Grain include:
- An interesting survey article that describes how many libraries are creatively acquiring more books with the same—or smaller—budgets
- A fine summary article that lists the why's and how-to's behind one library's search for reliable and affordable alternative sources for out-of-print, hard-to-find, or otherwise unavailable books
We've also re-posted the links on our emerging Media Coverage page, hoping you'll help yourself to the collegial knowledge. Please let us know if you know of any other such research reports, and we'll do the honors of spreading the word.
On the road and online in 2010
"Twenty-ten," "two-thousand-ten," or "two-thousand-and-ten"—no matter what you call it, 2010 is already gearing up to be another big year on the road for Alibris for Libraries. We'll be traveling to national and regional conferences showing off our inventory of over 100 million books, movies, and media—seriously, 100 million! In addition, our highly-regarded library team will be happy to show up right in your library—either in-person or online (via web-conference)—to hear from your staff about how we can make our site work harder for you. So let us know if and when you'd like to schedule a personal or virtual meeting.
We're on Facebook and Twitter
Did we mention that we now have both Facebook and Twitter pages? Well, we do, and we'd of course love for you and/or your library to "fan" and/or "follow" us. And yes, we promise to go easy on your wall and only re-tweet the good stuff. Like our Alibris retail counterparts, the plan is to start using social networking tools like these to not only promote our services to libraries, but reach out to more of our library customers, as well. So tell your friends—and your "friends"—to join us!
Alibris Tip: New lockbox address
Confirming the information on our invoices, in our shipments, on our site, and indicated on our wiki, our new address for remittance is:
Alibris
75 Remittance Drive, Suite 6046
Chicago, IL 60675-6046
The old remit-to address will remain open for a while, but if you could update your vendor files accordingly, we'll be able to more quickly process your payments and update your statements.
